5 Famous Athletes Who Used Orthodontic Braces

February 17, 2016

If you love sports, there’s probably a professional athlete you look up to, or at very least, admire. Several months ago we published a story on celebrities who used Invisalign to get their perfect teeth. The list included Justin Beiber and Tom Cruise, among others. But why stop there? Here are 5 famous athletes who rocked braces on the way to honor-filled careers.

  1. Brett Favre

Packers legend Brett Farve tore it up on the football field for years and years, winning Super Bowl XXXI and taking home the NFL Most Valuable Player award in 1995 (pictured above). His cannon arm and laser passing made him legend, but it was his dental braces that perfected his smile.

  2. Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard rocks the rim on the rockets. But did you know that he came into the NBA with braces? As recently as 2004 he rocked metal braces, showing off that sparkling smile at the 2004 NBA Draft, when he was selected by the Orlando Magic. He didn’t end up wearing braces during the NBA season, removing them before the NBA preseason his rookie year.

  3. Cristiano Ronaldo

When Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t brilliantly striking goals for Real Madrid or his home country of Portugal, he’s flashing that pearly white smile. What makes his game so on point? We think it’s because he had braces (OK, he has serious soccer game as well).

  4. Missy Franklin

The four-time Olympic gold medalist captured audiences around the world during her 2012 Olympics debut at the London summer games. Oh, and she was just 17-years-old, and rocking braces. Not bad, Missy.

  5. Venus Williams

You can go ahead and add straight teeth to Venus Williams’ stellar professional tennis record. On her way to changing the way women play tennis at the professional level, Venus has 49 career titles and a lifetime 78 percent winning percentage.
