Talk to Your Orthodontist About Invisalign®!
February 26, 2020
We live in a time where pretty much anything can be ordered and delivered to you within days, including clear orthodontic options. However, remote orthodontists can’t offer the same level of care, counsel, and monitoring as a local orthodontist. Here, we’ll discuss what a local orthodontist can do for you that a remote one can’t and answer some frequently asked questions about Invisalign®.
What Can a Local Orthodontist Do for You That Mail-Order Aligners Can’t?
- Monitor your progress throughout the alignment process.
- Adjust your treatment plan if your teeth move faster or slower than expected.
- Help you analyze whether clear aligners are the best course of treatment for you compared to other orthodontic options.
- Identify orthodontic issues that exist below the gumline or in the jaw—these can’t be seen from an at-home treatment kit’s putty impression.
Top Questions We Hear About Invisalign®
Are Clear Aligners Painful?
As with braces, aligners help your teeth move into proper alignment. This may cause you to feel some discomfort, but that should only last for the first 24-48 hours of using a new aligner and can be easily treated with ibuprofen.
How Often Do I Have to Wear the Aligners?
You should plan on wearing the aligners at all times except for when you’re eating food or cleaning your teeth—so for 20 to 22 hours per day.
Does Insurance Cover Clear Aligners?
If your insurance includes orthodontic treatment, then yes! If you have any questions about your particular insurance plan, please give us a call!
Is Invisalign® Expensive?
Depending on your insurance and the orthodontist you work with, Invisalign® treatments may cost more than traditional braces or other orthodontic treatments. At Smile Ranch Orthodontics, we make sure that Invisalign® is the same price as traditional braces, so that you can choose the system that is truly best for you.
Should I Avoid Certain Foods While Using the Aligners?
The beauty of wearing Invisalign® compared to traditional braces is that you can eat anything you want. There are literally no food restrictions! We only recommend that you brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligner back on after eating.
Will the Aligners Affect My Speech?
You may not be used to having a mouth appliance, and so it is very possible that it could take a week or two for you to adjust to having an aligner in your mouth. This adjustment may affect your speech temporarily.
How Do I Clean My Aligners?
You can use the Invisalign® Cleaning System or clean them with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and lukewarm water.
What Should I Do If I Lose My Retainer?
Contact your Smile Ranch orthodontist immediately, so we can get you a new aligner and keep you on track with your treatment plan.
