Why the Holidays Are the Best Time to Get Braces
November 27, 2018
Considering getting orthodontic treatment? Old or young, it’s never too late to get the smile of your dreams! You may have heard that the best time to get braces is during the summer, but starting orthodontic treatment can happen all year long! Here are six reasons why the holidays are the best time to get braces.
1. You Can Take Advantage of Your FSA.
Remember: Most of the money in your FSA won’t carry over! If you have funds in your FSA that need to be used before the end of the year, orthodontic treatment is the perfect use for your FSA and save money in the long run!
Your Health Savings Account (HSA) HSA can also be used to pay for orthodontic treatment, but unlike the FSA, the amount you have saved carries over each year. In fact, if you’re planning on getting orthodontic treatment but aren’t sure if you can afford it quite yet, your HSA is a great place to start building the savings you need for braces or Invisalign.

2. You Don’t Have to Miss School.
Just like a summer vacation, many schools in Utah offer a week or so off school during the holiday season. This week can give you the time you need to start treatment without having to miss class. Depending on when you plan for your appointment, you or your kids still have time to adjust to braces before school or work starts up again.
3. It’s Just in Time for Holiday Pictures.
Planning a big get-together for holiday pictures? If you’re worried about the appearance of braces for your family photos, choose Invisalign! With Invisalign you can smile wide without worrying about the appearance of the nearly invisible retainers.
If you go with braces chances are, you’ll have braces for at least a year, so why not get them on for the pictures? Plus, with traditional braces, you can choose which colors match the theme or add the holiday spirit to your outfit. Here are other ways to choose the right colors for your braces to stand out during the holiday season!
4. It’s Less Busy.
While many families start scrambling for the holiday season, take advantage of the less busy hours at orthodontists to get an appointment time that fits your schedule! Take it from us, it’s much busier during the summer or at the start of the school season. Avoid the crowds and come during the holiday season!
5. There are Plenty of Braces-Friendly Holiday Foods!
Getting braces doesn’t prevent you from splurging on your holiday food favorites. As long as you’re careful you can still eat:
- Corn (if it’s off the cob)
- Pumpkin pie
- Cranberry sauce
- And more!
If you choose to get Invisalign instead, there’s no problem with eating your favorite holiday foods. Just remember to brush your teeth afterward!
6. It’s the Perfect Time for Change.
Planning on setting your New Year’s Resolutions high this year? The new year is a great time to make changes and make goals. Plus, you can challenge your kids to take good care of their teeth once they get treatment. Good goals may be to:
- Wear your invisible retainers at least 22 hours each day
- Wear your rubber bands as directed by your orthodontist
- Brush your teeth twice a day and floss once a day
- Eat less sweets and drink less soda
While good oral hygiene is important, it’s even more crucial to take good care of your teeth when you have braces or Invisalign retainer to prevent permanent stains and tooth decay. Setting these kinds of goals when you first start braces can make your after-braces smile even brighter.
